When we talk about mental health, it mostly leads to our own complex regarding this topic. People generally don't feel comfortable telling their mental or emotional troubles. Mental health doesn't always mean depression, compulsive disorders, psychosis, etc. When we, as Homeopaths, ask our patients about any stress factor, they become very conscious while sharing such details.
"No, I don't feel stress... I don't feel negative... I am not that kind of psycho person...etc." This is the usual response we get from most of the male patients. They feel that their macho-man image will be deterred or if they discuss these issues (related to mental health), then people (or doctor) will think they are too weak and not macho enough. Mental or emotional health issues are not just reserved for females (unfortunately that's what general belief is). If you cry, it doesn't mean you are weak or have no stamina. Be open-minded about that and discuss it with your friends, relatives or doctor.
If you get angry often or are over worried about your job or some financial issues, then it will affect your general health. These anger issues, anxieties, overburden, overthinking, weeping tendencies lead to physical problems. So these issues need to be addressed in early stages for prevention of many of the chronic health issues like - diabetes, hypertension, irritable bowel syndrome, etc.
Health is not just physical well being, but a sum of physical + mental/emotional + social well being. Your target should be holistic care, and not just addressing physical symptoms which are actually outward manifestations of inner mental turmoil or imbalance. If you don't care about your mental health, then these suppressed or controlled emotions will be expressed through the physical signs and symptoms. And we, as careless beings, rush to hospitals and start taking harmful tablets to remove these visible signs and symptoms, and we don't give a damn about their root causes - mental or emotional issues or stress.
In Homeopathy, our main goal is to treat this root cause of your disease. That's why we need your one or two hours of time during case taking. Once we address your stress points or inner emotional issues, we try to balance this disharmony, and once you feel good mentally and emotionally, your physical signs and symptoms will disappear slowly without any side effects; because here we are not suppressing your illness but treating the root cause of it.
